Get Your Productivity On the Road On »

Planes, trains, and automobiles…face it, we all travel these days. Compounded by the advances in technology to keep us connected to the office - there are seldom excuses for not being totally productive regardless of your whereabouts.

So , how bout during the day…

  • Make the best of your room and desk to get some work done.  The family is not there - so focus on being productive.  For a change of scenery - check out the lobby as there is usually free wireless there too.

So, how bout in the airport…

  • Wireless.  How many times have to tried to remember your Boingo for ATT password to log onto airport wireless?  I think I have 4 Boingo accounts now.  Solution - I recently upgraded Blackberry via work and I am now able to use my Blackberry as a wireless modem.  Works like a charm!
  • Workspace.  Airports do not go overboard on quality seating.  And unless you are lucky enough to have a club membership - you find yourself looking for workspace.  Solution - Take advantage of those old school pay phone cubies.  They have a shelf just big enough for a laptop and usually have a power outlet. (Seats are still a downside)

So, how bout on the plane…

  • Try to get an exit row for more leg room (but I have noticed that padding may be less in exit rows - your mileage may vary)

So, how bout during meetings…

  • You should be paying attention during meetings.  That is why you are there.  However, pre-work the meeting (if its not yours) - and make sure there is a clear agenda and understand what the expected outcomes are.

I hope these spur some prodictivity enhancements and make travel a little more tolerable!

Honesty about posting frequency »

Yes, I am still alive belive it or not.  And thanks to those of you who perhaps still have me in your RSS feeds.

I have come to the conclusion that I need to post more than I have in the past - but not as much as I want too.

I have told myself that less is OK - as long as what gets posted is helpful.

Off to catch a plane…

Where did my lists go? And did I miss them? »

Hey!  What happended to my lists?  How am I getting anything done?  Am I working on the most important things?  Gosh I hope so!

I have had about a 2-3 week period in which a certain project became my life.  There is nothing like a good deadline to bring things together!  However, I cant tell you the last time I looked at any of my @Context lists…scary!

  • Good News - The project (at least this phase) is satisfied with my work product.  But its just the beginning.
  • Bad News - All my other projects suffered, not terminally, but they have suffered.  I have not done a weekly review in well…weeks. My mind has turned numb.

Yes, this is another testimonial to the weekly review.  And it is getting done tonight!

I am currenltly on the outbound part of a trip that will not wrap up unil Thursday.  While being away from the family is tough - but it does allow some time in the evenings to really focus on WORK.  And boy do I need such time.

Our next post will target some ideas and tips on how to stay productive while on the road.

Better get that one on my next action list!

Wordpress and Images or Not »

A few weeks ago I upgraded to Wordpress 2.5.1 and found myself not being able to post images (at least easily).  Seems there is some bug with this version of Wordpress.  I am on the case and hope to have a little more eye candy posted in short order.  Thanks for understanding.
