Planes, trains, and automobiles…face it, we all travel these days. Compounded by the advances in technology to keep us connected to the office - there are seldom excuses for not being totally productive regardless of your whereabouts.
So , how bout during the day…
- Make the best of your room and desk to get some work done. The family is not there - so focus on being productive. For a change of scenery - check out the lobby as there is usually free wireless there too.
So, how bout in the airport…
- Wireless. How many times have to tried to remember your Boingo for ATT password to log onto airport wireless? I think I have 4 Boingo accounts now. Solution - I recently upgraded Blackberry via work and I am now able to use my Blackberry as a wireless modem. Works like a charm!
- Workspace. Airports do not go overboard on quality seating. And unless you are lucky enough to have a club membership - you find yourself looking for workspace. Solution - Take advantage of those old school pay phone cubies. They have a shelf just big enough for a laptop and usually have a power outlet. (Seats are still a downside)
So, how bout on the plane…
- Try to get an exit row for more leg room (but I have noticed that padding may be less in exit rows - your mileage may vary)
So, how bout during meetings…
- You should be paying attention during meetings. That is why you are there. However, pre-work the meeting (if its not yours) - and make sure there is a clear agenda and understand what the expected outcomes are.
I hope these spur some prodictivity enhancements and make travel a little more tolerable!
